Everything (Dougherty Garden, Yorkville, Life in the U.S. Marines, Oldies (Doo Wop) Music, etc.) is under the greendougherty name and each will have a separate directory under each category. This one will help me out to control all the activity in the Dougherty Garden. Until I get another web site, this will give me a place to control all the activity in the Dougherty Garden with pictures and blogs over the years.

Dougherty Garden – Today in the Garden – Using Grass Runners for Bare Spots – May 23, 2016

Dougherty Garden – Today in the Garden – Using Grass Runners for Bare Spots

Every once in a while I’ll get a chance to do a little grass maintenance and in the process I’ll obtains several grass runners that I use for re sodding an area of the Dougherty Garden grass areas that has dried out. the following is the first step in the process after I have removed several grass runners form an area of the Dougherty garden where I have a small camp fire. It is presently over grown with dollar weeds and grass runners that have run past my edging material.

As I cut the grass runner into small pieces I place them in a plastic pot and add water and some liquid fertilizer.

In the Dougherty garden I spend a lot of time near the ground when I do grass maintenance and weed pulling. I use the a small plastic container for a seat and my tools.

The Dougherty Garden on September 22, 2014 – Today in the Garden

It was a bit windy and stormy in the Dougherty Garden today.  here are some of the items that caught my attention with my camera.

11 Areca Palm Seedling
02 Reclinata Palm Seedling

This is a Reclinbata Palm Seed that I obtaijned from a series of Reclinata Palm Trees that were in my driving area. I pulled into the area of the Areca Palm Trees and collected a few palm seeds. These Reclinata Palm Seeds are oblong in shape and were littered below the Reclinata Palm Trees.

This is the cluster of the Reclinata Palm Tree that caught my attention while driving by. It was with the stop because some of the fresh seeds were already beginning to drop from the bracts on the palm tree.

As you can see from the above picture, there are numerous clusters of seed bracts on this Reclinata Palm Tree. I’ll visit the site again yo  to collect more seeds as more fall from the Reclinata Palm Tree.

11 Areca Seedling
11 Areca Seedling

This is a small Areca Palm Tree seedling that caught my attention while I was gathering Areca Palm Tree seeds. It was just setting out roots and getting comfortable. I put this seed into a larger plastic pot to follow the length of time it takes to germinate. I’m betting on 30 days because of this particular seed germination period. We’ll see. A closer look at the Areca palm seed that put out two roots.

Dancing Ladies Seed Pods
Dancing Ladies Seed Pods

These are the Dancing Ladies Seed Pods many days after the flowers have bloomed. I’m waiting to see if these pods dry out and drop the small seeds inside. I want to see if I can capture the moment on one of the pods to see if I can get a dancing Lady to germinate in a pot.

Donkey Ears
Donkey Ears

This is another version of the Sanseria plant called “Donkey Ears”. I’ve been looking at this plant for the last few weeks and knew something had happened but didn’t tale a closer look. I finally picked it up and placed it on the recycle bins and noticed that a new shoot  had emerged from from the base of the plant.

White Orchid
White Orchid

This is my White Orchid which is one of the plants in the Dougherty Garden that keeps on giving. I receive it as a gift from a local friend with another Purpole Orchid. I place both of them on a palm tree that has since died and now have to find a new location for these orchids to continue giving off beautiful bools.

That covers what I discovered in the Dougherty Garden today.

Enjoying growing green,

Marty Dougherty #greendougherty
